Welcome home; Ex-Patriots Quarterback Signed to Replace Vikings’ Sam Darnold

Welcome home; Ex-Patriots Quarterback Signed to Replace Vikings’ Sam Darnold

At one point, Jimmy Garoppolo looked like he could be the future quarterback for the New England Patriots.

Unfortunately, for his sake, he was caught in a time when Tom Brady was clearly the best quarterback in the NFL and perhaps of all time.

He only lasted three seasons with the Patriots before joining the San Francisco 49ers.

Garoppolo has put together a decent career for himself but has been around the league a bit.

He’s also dealt with a few injuries but is still only 33 years old and might have something left in the tank.

Even if it’s as a backup, he could be viewed as a decent fit for teams around the league.

Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports named a few potential fits for the veteran, adding that the Minnesota Vikings could be a team that gives him a chance.

The Vikings are an intriguing team for any veteran, as Sam Darnold is on the free agency market.

If Darnold doesn’t return in free agency, the Vikings are expected to hand the keys to J.J. McCarthy.

However, the former 2024 first-round pick is coming off a major knee injury, and it’s uncertain how he’ll look returning from that.

If things don’t go as planned for McCarthy, Garoppolo could be a decent veteran to get snaps in Kevin O’Connell’s offense.
