One player who had a good season in 2024 that the purple and gold should consider bringing back is running back Aaron Jones, who signed a one-year deal last offseason and is currently scheduled to become a free agent.

Minnesota Vikings reportedly make their feelings about Aaron Jones very obvious

ESPN’s Field Yates recently shared on X that the Minnesota Vikings and Aaron Jones have agreed to move the void date on his current contract from Feb. 17 to the day before free agency. This decision is intriguing for those hoping to see him back for the 2025 NFL season.

The Minnesota Vikings have a tough offseason ahead of them. The team needs to make some tough decisions in free agency and need to assemble a roster that can follow up a 14-win effort during the 2024 season.

Deciding which players to let hit free agency and which ones to re-sign will be tough for general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah to decide. The Vikings are in a tough situation at multiple positions, including quarterback, running back, cornerback, and safety.

The Vikings and RB Aaron Jones agreed to move the void date on his contract from this Monday until the final day before free agency.

If Jones had not been extended by Monday, the team would have taken on $3.2M in dead money in 2025.

The one-year deal worth $7 million that Aaron Jones signed with the Vikings last offseason has four void years to spread out the cap hit. If that void date hadn’t changed, Minnesota would be on the hook for each of those amounts in full but would count as dead money against the salary cap for the 2025 NFL season.

If the Vikings can work out an extension with Jones, those void years could once again be spread out. That also likely means that Minnesota has a serious interest in re-signing the 30-year-old running back for the 2025 NFL season.

Minnesota re-signing Jones wouldn’t be shocking since he played all 17 regular season games for the Vikings in 2024 and racked up over 1,500 yards from scrimmage while finding the end zone seven times.

With Aaron Jones and Cam Akers both scheduled to become free agents, the Vikings will be looking for a running back to join Ty Chandler on the roster and handle the bulk of the offensive snaps for the team next season.

Now, the Minnesota Vikings have more time to work with Aaron Jones to find a deal that will make both sides happy. Jones has already expressed a desire to return to the team this offseason, so now it seems even more likely that he will return for the 2025 NFL season.
