Vikings’ Aaron Jones Speaks on Aaron Rodgers Offseason Drama
The New York Jets are expected to part ways with Aaron Rodgers after two seasons, rekindling the Rodgers offseason drama that will play out over the next month.
Coming off an ACL injury, Rodgers went 5-12 with a Jets team that underwent an organizational upheaval, firing head coach Robert Salah and general manager Joe Douglas.
New York made it clear they would move on from Rodgers in a Feb. 13 statement, but Rodgers’ next move is unknown. However, Former Green Bay Packers teammate and Minnesota Vikings running back Aaron Jones has an idea of what Rodgers has in mind.
According to Jones, retirement is not on the table for Rodgers, who Jones expects to seek retribution instead.
Speaking with TMZ Sports on Feb. 14, Jones said that he feels like Rodgers will return for his age-41 season.
“I feel like he’s still got a lot to prove. Now he’s really going to have a chip on his shoulder,” Jones said. “He’s going to go out and show, ‘Hey, you guys made the wrong decision. I gotta a lotta ball left, and we going to be good.’ ”
Where Rodgers lands in 2025 remains to be seen. Every team with questions at quarterback could conceivably be a fit for the former league MVP, including the Vikings.
Jones wouldn’t speak firmly on the Vikings’ quarterback situation, given his future in Minnesota is also in the air. Jones, like Sam Darnold, is the No. 1 free agent at his position and is expected to garner plenty of interest if not re-signed before free agency
I got to be brought back first,” Jones joked. “I’m a free agent as well. I hope to be back there, whoever’s going to be at quarterback, they’ll be ready we’ll be ready to lead them. Sam was great for us we hope to have him back as well, but J.J.’s ready when it’s his time.
“I’m confident in both quarterbacks. We got all the pieces we need.”
The Vikings and Jones agreed over the weekend to extend a void date in his contract that would have tolled $3.2 million in dead cap on Monday, Feb. 17 — a signal that both sides are open to getting an extension reached.
