Victims identified in fatal head-on collision on Seward Highway
A head-on collision involving two vehicles left two dead and three injured Monday along the Seward Highway at mile 82 near Portage, according to the Anchorage Police Department (APD).
At around 4:11 p.m., The Anchorage Police Department, Whittier Police Department, Anchorage Fire Department, and Girdwood Fire Department responded to a collision with reported injuries.
Authorities investigated the scene and determined it was a head-on collision between a Jeep Gladiator traveling northbound and a Mazda CX-50 traveling southbound.
Whittier Police Department confirmed two had died. They have been identified by APD as 67-year-old Sharon Finn and 55-year-old Anna Acovak.
The other three individuals involved sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to the local hospital.
The inbound and outbound lanes of the Seward Highway initially closed around 5:30 p.m. The highway reopened around 1:30 a.m. early Tuesday morning.
The next-of-kin have been notified.
