Update: Woman killed in fatal I-359 wreck Wednesday identified

Tuscaloosa Police have identified the woman who died after she was struck by a tractor-trailer when she got out of her crashed car on Interstate 359 Wednesday as 30-year-old Kiana Marie Armstrong of Tuscaloosa.

Original story is below:

A 30-year-old woman from Tuscaloosa is dead and the Tuscaloosa Police Department’s Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating after a wreck on Interstate 359 near the Interstate 20/59 junction this morning.

Officers responded to the northbound I-359 lanes just before 5:30 a.m. and it appears the victim, who has not yet been identified to the media by Tuscaloosa Police, was involved in a single-vehicle crash as she was exiting I-20/59 onto I-359.

The woman’s car stopped in the middle lane of I-359, and a witness told officers that she got out of her car after the crash and was then struck by a tractor-trailer.

She was taken to DCH Regional Medical Center, where she died from her injuries.

Traffic was rerouted from the area until around 10 a.m.

TPD will release the victim’s name Thursday.
