TRENDING: Minnesota Vikings Make Shocking Quarterback Decision That Left Fans In Tears Till Today
The Minnesota Vikings are entering the NFL offseason with quite a few decisions to make. Obviously, their biggest decision will come at the quarterback position.
Sam Darnold is set to become a free agent. They also have second-year quarterback J.J. McCarthy waiting in the wings and coming back from a knee injury that required multiple surgeries.
Many believe that Darnold will end up signing elsewhere. It seems unlikely that the Vikings would commit to Darnold long-term after spending a first round pick on McCarthy just last year. However, no one truly knows what Minnesota is going to choose to do.
That being said, a new prediction has been made for the Vikings regarding their quarterback situation.
Minnesota Vikings Predicted to Make Shocking Quarterback Decision
Andrew Buller-Russ of SportsNaut has predicted that the Minnesota Vikings will re-sign Darnold. He thinks that it could be a short-term deal, but that Darnold will be back leading the charge in 2025 for the Vikings.
“Minnesota has 2024 first-round pick J.J. McCarthy returning from knee surgery next season, but Darnold’s breakout season provides them a difficult decision. The team could franchise and trade Darnold or simply keep him for at least one more season. Despite Darnold’s struggles late in the year, it will be tough for the Vikings to move on.”
Truthfully, this might be the best course of action for Minnesota. With McCarthy’s injury and being unable to get valuable experience during the preseason last year, betting on him to start and lead the Vikings to success in 2025 would be dangerous.
Darnold is coming off of a big-time year for Minnesota during the 2024 season. He completed 66.2 percent of his pass attempts for 4,319 yards, 35 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. He also chipped in 212 yards and a touchdown on the ground.
At 27 years old, the question would become, will Darnold re-sign to a short-term deal? He still has plenty of time to be a long-term franchise quarterback for a team.
If another team comes in and offers him a good deal with a long-term length, he would likely pass on re-signing with the Minnesota Vikings.
It will be interesting to see what ends up happening during the offseason between Darnold and the Vikings.
