Three car smash closes Blackburn Road for several hours

At around 9.25pm on Saturday, three cars were involved in a serious crash on Blackburn Road in Blackburn, close to the Recap Garage and Old Mother Redcap pub.

 

Three people were taken to hospital with two of them suffering serious injuries.

 

A Ford Mondeo crashed head-on with an Audi and a Skoda Octavia which were travelling in the opposite direction.

 

The driver of the Mondeo, a man in his 30s, suffered serious leg, facial and internal injuries.

He was taken to hospital where he is in a serious but stable condition.

 

The driver of the Audi, a woman in her 20s, suffered spinal injuries and a passenger – also a woman in her 20s – suffered facial injuries. Both were taken to hospital.

 

The driver of the Skoda Octavia was not injured.

 

Blackburn Road was closed for several hours while police carried out scene invesigations and was re-opened around 6.30am on Sunday (May 7).

 

A spokesperson for the police said: “We were called at 9.28pm last night (May 6) to reports of a road traffic collision on Blackburn Road, Blackburn.

 

“The collision involved three vehicles and three people were taken to hospital, two of them having suffered serious injuries.

 

“The road was shut for a number of hours while an investigation into the collision was carried out.”

 

Police are now appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage.

 

Sgt Michael Higginson of Lancashire Police’s Road Policing Unit said: “This was a serious collision involving three vehicles, resulting in three people suffering injuries.

 

“We would like anyone who witnessed the collision or who has dashcam footage from the area around the time, to please get in contact to help our investigation.”
