The breakdown of the record-breaking enrollment is impressive

Appalachian State University has reached a milestone in its 124-year history achieving the highest fall enrollment ever recorded with 21,253 students.¹ This marks a 4% increase from last year’s enrollment. The student body is not only the largest but also the most diverse, comprising 19% of racially and ethnically underrepresented students.

The breakdown of the record-breaking enrollment is impressive:

– *Largest First-Year Class*: 4,227 new students, an 8% increase from last year.

– *Transfer Students*: 1,591 new transfer students, a 6% increase.

– *Online Enrollment*: 2,038 students, a 16% increase.

– *Rural Students*: 5,681 in-state undergraduate students from rural areas, a 2% increase.

App State’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion is evident in its growing Hispanic/Latine student population, which has increased by 156% since 2014. The university’s efforts to support underrepresented students have led to a 77% increase in total underrepresented student population during the same period.

Chancellor Sheri Everts attributes the university’s success to its dedication to providing affordable, high-quality education. “In Boone and Hickory, and online, App State continues its mission to extend access to higher education, to serve our region, and to better the futures of all North Carolinians,” Everts said. The university’s strong enrollment numbers demonstrate its commitment to achieving the myFutureNC goal of ensuring 2 million North Carolinians have a postsecondary degree or credential by 2030.
