Lady Vols Coach Kim Caldwell Breaks Down 88-80 Win Over Alabama
Knoxville, TN – Tennessee Lady Vols coach Kim Caldwell was thrilled with her team’s 88-80 victory over Alabama on Thursday night. In a post-game press conference, Caldwell discussed the key factors that contributed to the Lady Vols’ success.
“I’m really proud of our team’s effort tonight,” Caldwell said. “We knew Alabama was going to be a tough opponent, but our players stepped up and made big plays when it mattered most.”
The Lady Vols were led by a strong performance from their senior guard, Jordan Horston, who scored a game-high 25 points. Caldwell praised Horston’s leadership and ability to make clutch shots.
“Jordan was phenomenal tonight,” Caldwell said. “She’s been playing at an elite level all season, and tonight was no exception. Her ability to score and create for her teammates is a huge asset for our team.”
Caldwell also highlighted the Lady Vols’ improved defensive effort, which held Alabama to 42% shooting from the field.
“Our defense was much better tonight than it has been in recent games,” Caldwell said. “We were able to contest shots and limit Alabama’s scoring opportunities. That was a big key to our success.”
The Lady Vols also dominated the rebounding battle, outrebounding Alabama 43-31. Caldwell credited her team’s rebounding effort to their focus on crashing the boards.
“We emphasized the importance of rebounding in our game plan, and our players responded,” Caldwell said. “We knew Alabama was a strong rebounding team, but we were able to outmuscle them and secure some big rebounds.”
With the win, the Lady Vols improved to 20-5 overall and 9-3 in the SEC. Caldwell is proud of her team’s progress, but knows there is still work to be done.
“We’re happy with where we are, but we’re not satisfied,” Caldwell said. “We know we have some tough games ahead of us, and we need to stay focused and keep improving if we want to achieve our goals.”
The Lady Vols will look to build on their momentum when they host Arkansas on Sunday.
