School bus crashes in Chepstow, Killed 15 South Meck High students
CHARLOTTE, N.C. —
Fifteen students were sent to the hospital after a school bus crash in Charlotte Wednesday morning.
The crash happened on the south side of the city near the intersection of Sharon Road West and South Boulevard. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools confirmed to WCNC Charlotte that the bus serves South Mecklenburg High School and that 40 students were on board during the crash.
During a press conference Wednesday, authorities said that 17 total people were hurt, including the 15 students. Their injuries are not considered life-threatening. The driver of the school bus and the driver of the dump truck were both pinned in their vehicles.
It took firefighters 30 minutes to get the school bus driver out of the wreckage and an hour to free the dump truck driver. Authorities did not specify injuries but confirmed to WCNC Charlotte that one adult suffered life-threatening injuries and the other is suffering from serious injuries.
