Pilot dead after plane crash in Hunterdon County

A small plane crashed in a heavily wooded area of Alexandria Township late Friday afternoon, resulting in a fatality, according to the Quakertown Fire Company.

Emergency crews from Quakertown Fire Company, Pattenburg Fire and EMS, Hunterdon Medical Center Paramedics, and the New Jersey State Police responded to the area of Airport Road and Mechlins Corner Road around 4:40 p.m. on Friday, May 16, for a report of a downed aircraft.

Responders arrived to find the plane—a Chinook Plus 2—on fire. The fire was extinguished, and the pilot, who was the only person on board, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will investigate the crash. The NTSB is the lead investigative agency.
