NFL World Noticed Timing of O’Connell Extension with Vikings vs Adofo-Mensah
There was initially talk of Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell being a trade candidate. Broadcaster Paul Allen didn’t like it, and the Wilf family never truly entertained it. He now has a gaudy new contract extension.
That same reality is not true for general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah. O’Connell’s boss is still leading the MN Vikings into the future, but he’ll need to establish a better track record than he has thus far.
Minnesota Vikings leadership remains intact…for now
It didn’t take long for the Minnesota Vikings to get head coach Kevin O’Connell’s extension done. Kewsi Adofo-Mensah still has not yet had his worked out. He continues to own ultimate roster power, but how long with that last?
The MN Vikings paid O’Connell to coach, nothing more. He’ll still speak into roster building, but the hierarchy remains.
There is no hiding that Adofo-Mensah has left plenty to be desired on the draft front. He has been excellent when it comes to play acquisition outside of that vein. Whether or not that’s a sustainable reality is something that the Wilf’s must weigh in deciding to keep him around.

Adofo-Mensah knows he gets asked about the drafting ability all the time. There are reasons for that, but he is trying to play the long game.
Vikings writer Kevin Seifert has seen the organization operate through multiple regimes over the years. This one looks successful on paper, but the underbelly could turn ugly if the unsustainable stretch continues from a draft perspective.

Eventually Adofo-Mensah must prove his analytical mindset can pay dividends from a draft evaluation and value standpoint. If he can get there soon, then the Wilf’s should feel much better about tying O’Connell’s future to him as their lead executive.
