Multiple Killed in Devastating Louisville, Kentucky Bank Shooting
A tragic mass shooting occurred on April 10 2023 at the Old National Bank in Louisville Kentucky claiming the lives of five innocent people and injuring eight others, including two police officers.¹ The shooter, identified as 25-year-old Connor James Sturgeon, a former bank employee, was fatally shot by police.
Incident Details
The shooting happened on the first floor of the bank, near Louisville Slugger Field and Waterfront Park. Sturgeon used an AR-15-style rifle, which he had purchased legally six days prior to the incident. He livestreamed the shooting on Instagram until he was killed by officers from the Louisville Metro Police Department.
Victims
The five victims were all employees of Old National Bank:

Investigation
The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives assisted with the investigation. Sturgeon’s motive was reportedly to highlight lax gun laws in the United States. He left notes expressing his desire to “tell my story” and “impact change” regarding gun access.
Aftermath
The Old National Bank building closed temporarily after the shooting and reopened in June 2023 at a new location. Governor Andy Beshear and other officials condemned the violence, with President Joe Biden calling for gun reform.
