Jay Bilas makes bold SEC hoops claim Tennessee fans everywhere can agree with
It’s really hard to believe what we’ve seen out of SEC hoops teams this season. On any given day, any team has the potential to take down its opponent no matter what the odds are. Just ask the No. 5 Tennessee Vols about that. It’s been a great season for Rick Barnes, but some tough losses have been posted.
Most recently, the Vols suffered a minor setback, losing to No. 15 Kentucky in Lexington. With that win, UK was able to post a season sweep over the Vols, which no one in Lexington liked seeing. On top of that, Tennessee, perfect in its non-conference schedule, also suffered losses to Florida, Vanderbilt and Auburn.
As things stand, the Vols hold a 20-5 record, with a 7-5 SEC record. Outside of Auburn and Alabama, every team has at least three conference losses. It truly has been an epic year, with people across the country taking notice. The list includes Jay Bilas, who delivered quite the take on how he sees things this season:
Jay Bilas has been blown away with how great the SEC has looked this year
Bilas saying this is the most powerful league, top to bottom, that there has ever been sure has people talking. It’s not hard to agree with what Bilas is trying to get across. Every single night, we are seeing incredible showdowns.
This weekend, No. 1 Auburn and No. 2 Auburn are ready to dance in what could end up being one of the best games of the year. As for Tennessee, the team has suffered some close losses to SEC rivals, but Barnes and his players are aware of how strong the competition is this year.
Barnes never wants to see anyone panic once a loss is posted. When the Vols lost their first game of the season to Florida, fans indeed were losing it when a 30-point defeat went down. Well, Tennessee landed a return haymaker on the Gators, beating them by 20 in Knoxville. That’s how things are working out this campaign.
Bilas previously said winning the SEC Tournament may be harder than winning the NCAA Tournament. Again, that’s how stacked the conference is in 2024-25. It’s been a wild ride and there’s still plenty of more basketball left to be played this winter. Look for the Vols and others to keep making noise, with Bilas being impressed with what’s being showcased.
