‘I didn’t like that’ four-star recruit explains why he decommitted from the Tennessee Vols

Late last month, 2026 four-star offensive lineman Brandon Anderson decommitted from the Tennessee Vols.

Anderson, 6-foot-4/320 lbs from Kennesaw, GA, had been committed to Tennessee since last October.

The Georgia native is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 22 interior offensive lineman in the nation.

Anderson revealed to 247Sports recently that he decommitted from Tennessee in part because the Vols wanted him to “shut down” his recruitment.

So this is the reason I opened my recruitment back up,” said Anderson (via Noles 247). “I felt like I should have more opportunities. They (Tennessee) wanted me to shut down my recruitment after my OV with them. I didn’t like that. I have more interest in other schools too. So I had to decommit and experience my high school time.”

It’s certainly understandable that Anderson wants to explore his options, take additional visits, and, in general, enjoy the high school recruiting process (it only happens once for a player…the transfer portal process is a completely different experience).

However, it’s worth pointing out that players committed to Tennessee have taken visits elsewhere before eventually signing with the Vols (five-star offensive lineman David Sanders Jr and four-star defensive back Boo Carter, for example).

The Tennessee Vols aren’t giving up in their pursuit of Brandon Anderson

Despite Anderson’s recent decommitment, Tennessee isn’t giving up in their pursuit of the talented offensive lineman.

According to Rivals.com recruiting analyst Sam Spiegelman, Anderson will take an official visit to Tennessee the weekend of June 20.

Florida, Florida State, and Georgia are also set to receive official visits from Anderson this summer.

We’ll have a better sense of where this recruiting battle stands after Anderson takes his official visits this summer. The Vols, though, are still very much in the mix to land the four-star offensive lineman.
