*Flash Flooding Hits Dollywood, Leaving One Injured*

Heavy rains pounded Dollywood, a popular theme park in Tennessee, causing flash flooding that resulted in one minor injury on Sunday. The severe weather event prompted the National Weather Service to issue a Flash Flood Warning for the area, including Pigeon Forge, where the park is located ¹.

Torrential rain, with 2.5 inches falling in just one hour and a total of 4 inches, overwhelmed the park’s drainage system, causing water to cover walkways and parking lots. Visitors were seen wading through flooded stores and walkways, while others were trapped in their vehicles.

Bailey and Sophie Elkins, two visitors who were at the park, described the chaotic scene. “When that rain poured down, it really heightened the increasing rise of the water in those ponds and whatnot, so they just overflowed so quick,” Bailey said. The sisters were forced to wait for about two hours for the water to recede before they could leave the park.

Dollywood officials released a statement saying that the park was supporting guests whose vehicles were affected by the flooding and that cleanup crews had been deployed. The park reopened for business on Monday afternoon.

The flash flooding served as a reminder of the importance of being prepared for severe weather events. Visitors to the park were lucky to have escaped with only one minor injury, and the incident could have been much worse.
