Former Gamecock quarterback named head football coach at Fort Mill high school

A familiar name in the world of South Carolina athletics was named the head football coach of a Fort Mill high school last week.

Former Gamecock quarterback Jake Bentley was formally announced as Nation Ford High School’s varsity head football coach on Wednesday, Jan. 8.

“Blessed and thankful to begin this new chapter as Head Coach for Falcons Football,” Bentley wrote on X. “Incredible first day! We are going to build something special here!!”

Bentley spent four years at South Carolina, three of which he started.

During Bentley’s sophomore season with the Gamecocks in 2017, he led the team to a 9-4 record including a victory in the Outback Bowl.

After his standout season in 2017, Bentley’s next two with the Gamecocks became injury-plagued, and in 2020 he transferred to Utah.
