Final compensatory pick projections have been released with the Minnesota Vikings being huge beneficiaries
The 2025 NFL Draft might be just over three months away, but we are starting to see things a little more clearly across the board.
The Minnesota Vikings currently have just three selections in April’s draft:
1st round
5th round
5th round (from Cleveland Browns)
That limited amount of draft capital is tough for the Vikings, as they are trying to rebuild their roster for a Super Bowl run, especially now that the salary cap issues that have haunted them for the first three years of the Kwesi Adofo-Mensah and Kevin O’Connell eras.
Vikings set to receive gift from Kirk Cousins
The NFL Draft is set to go down injust over three months. The Vikings aren’t going to have much ammunition to make their team better with just those three selections.
As many have expected, the Vikings should be getting a third-round compensatory selection from losing quarterback Kirk Cousins. That belief got strengthened when Over The Cap’s Nick Korte finalized his projections for compensatory picks and gave the Vikings a third-round pick.
Having an extra pick in this draft will be huge for the Vikings, especially since they will have just four selections. The Vikings likely aren’t done there, as trades will net the Vikings multiple more selections if they choose to trade down.
This is also where Vikings’ fans will be upset, as the singing of cornerback Shaquill Griffin appears to have canceled out a second third-round compensatory selection that would have come for losing edge rusher Danielle Hunter.
The last signing the Vikings made in the compensatory pick window was Griffin and that was the one that canceled out Hunter, as they cancel out the closest one to their own projected pick, as Griffin was projected to account for a sixth-round pick.
Griffin himself played well this season, including a game-sealing interception
