Tennessee basketball fans can breathe a sigh of relief, as Zakai Zeftiger’s injury isn’t as severe as initially thought. The star guard suffered a right knee injury during Tuesday’s game against Kentucky, but fortunately, it’s not a repeat of the torn ACL he suffered in his left knee last season.¹
According to ESPN’s Molly McGrath, Zeftiger was evaluated by the medical staff, and they determined he didn’t need an X-ray. He even returned to the court for warm-ups before the second half, showing no noticeable limp.²
Tennessee coach Rick Barnes expressed concern about Zeftiger’s injury during his halftime interview, saying, “I’ve never seen him run off the court like that. I’m worried about it”.³ However, Zeftiger’s quick return to the court is a promising sign for the Volunteers.
This season, Zeftiger has been averaging 12.3 points, 7.5 assists, and 3.5 rebounds per game, making him a crucial player for Tennessee.
