Driver dies after being ejected during crash on I-70 in Wayne County
A driver died after being ejected during a single-vehicle crash in Wayne County early Thursday morning.
The crash happened on I-70 eastbound around 4:25 a.m. about ten miles west of Centerville. According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, a 1996 Dodge Ram veered off the road, continued through a ditch and hit a hump or ridge, causing the pickup truck to flip over several times.
The driver was ejected from the vehicle before it came to a stop. Deputies found the driver lying partially in the road; the individual was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash temporarily closed all eastbound lanes, although the left lane reopened to traffic around 5:40 a.m. The right lane remained closed as of 9 a.m., but the sheriff’s office estimated the interstate would reopen soon. INDOT indicated the interstate fully reopened around 10:40 a.m.
The crash remains under investigation.
