Dirt bike rider killed when he rode into a utility pole guy wire in Fresno County
FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (FOX26) — A dirt bike accident claimed the life of a Coalinga man Sunday night.
The solo vehicle crash happened around 8 p.m. on Highway 33, also known as Jayne Avenue, east of San Joaquin Avenue.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the man was riding a 2006 Suzuki RM250 dirt bike westbound on the north shoulder of the highway at around 50 mph.
As he crossed an agricultural dirt road, he drove into a power pole guy wire.
He was ejected from the bike and was pronounced dead at the scene.
CHP believes the man did not see the wire because of the dark conditions on the county road.
Alcohol and drugs are not suspected to have played a role in the crash.
