Bruce Pearl provides update on Johni Broome ahead of Tennessee matchup

Bruce Pearl provided an update for his star forward Johni Broome on Thursday.

Broome has missed Auburn’s previous 2 games after spraining his ankle against South Carolina on Jan. 11. The Tigers managed to win both games without Broome, but the big man is vital to the team and leads in points, rebounds, assists, and blocks per game.

On Thursday, Pearl said “there’s a possibility,” that Broome will practice on Thursday.

“We’ll practice this afternoon, and there’s a possibility he’ll try and practice,” Pearl said. “But we’re not sure. I’ll obviously know more tomorrow and Saturday, so I don’t know whether he’s questionable or possible, but I do know he’s going to try to move around a little bit today. We’ll just have to see how he does.”

Broome is averaging 17.9 points, 10.7 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 2.7 blocks per game in the 2024-25 season. The senior earned First-team All-SEC and Third-team All-American honors after a dominant 2023-24 season and appears to be on pace to have another stellar campaign.

Without Broome, the Tigers took down No. 15 Mississippi State and No. 23 Georgia. The Tigers are currently riding a 10-game winning streak and are looking to make it 11 when No. 6 Tennessee comes to town this weekend.

The Vols and Tigers will tip off from Neville Arena on Saturday at 8:30 p.m. ET. The Tigers lost to the Vols in their lone 2023-24 matchup, so Pearl’s squad will be looking for revenge.
