Adam Schefter Names The Best Free Agent QB Available This Offseason

Not many people thought the Minnesota Vikings would be a Super Bowl-caliber team this season.

That was especially true after seeing J.J. McCarthy fall with a season-ending injury.

Even so, Sam Darnold still led them to a 14-win regular season.

And while he didn’t look good in the two most crucial games of the campaign, he played his way into a bigger contract.

That’s why Adam Schefter of ESPN believes he will be the most sought-after quarterback in free agency in the offseason.

Talking on “The Pat McAfee Show,” Schefter admitted that, while Darnold didn’t do himself any favors with his play down the stretch this season, he will still be a hot commodity around the league (via The Purple Persuasion

Darnold was reportedly in the mix to land a four-year deal worth $40 million a season.

Now, experts believe he will be closer to Geno Smith and Baker Mayfield’s offer, which could be a three-year deal worth around $100 million.

Darnold threw for over 4,300 passing yards and 35 touchdowns with 12 interceptions.

He looked like a potential franchise player for the first time in his career.

Unfortunately, some still doubted his ability to perform in a big game, and those doubts proved to be true.

Now, the Vikings seem more likely to roll with McCarthy as their starter for the future.

However, given the current picture in the league, at least five teams could and should be interested in his services.
