The Russell neighbourhood area where a man was killed, according to a councilwoman, is “gang territory.”

Following a fatal gunshot in an alleyway on Wednesday night, residents of the Russell neighbourhood are expressing increased fears about their safety. Every day, I worry about my child and the other kids here. My child is a teenager. Mary Anthony remarked, “I don’t like him going outside because you never know what might happen.”

After arriving at the scene on Esquire Alley, officers discovered that the victim had been shot several times. “Fistfights are no longer the norm as they were in the past. Shooting is everything,” Anthony remarked.

A few hours after the murder on Esquire Alley, there was another shooting on 11th Street, which was a block away. Although bullets had been fired in the vicinity of this street during the summer, the man who was shot and survived. Esquire Alley saw five gunshot wounds in July and one fatal shooting inside an apartment block on the same street in May. Councilwoman Tammy Hawkins cited gang involvement as one of the many causes of the local crime problem. “I’m not talking about red and blue; I’d say that’s a major gang area. “I’m referring to a specific area,” Hawkins stated. She underlined the necessity of increased police presence, successful violence prevention initiatives, and community assistance.
