Decatur man killed in two-vehicle crash on M-51
Michigan State Police are investigating what happened, including the possibility of drug or alcohol use.
VAN BUREN COUNTY, Mich. — A 31-year-old Decatur man died Sunday evening in a two-vehicle crash on M-51 Highway in Van Buren County, according to Michigan State Police.
The wreck happened around 7:35 p.m. near County Road 215 in Hamilton Township, which is about 5 miles north of Decatur.
Troopers from the Paw Paw Post responded to the scene where they found the driver of a Ford car died from his injuries.
A 47-year-old Eau Claire man driving a GMC Yukon had minor injuries. Emergency personnel took him to Corewell Health Lakeland Hospital for treatment.
Investigators said the cause of the crash remains under investigation. Authorities noted that alcohol or drugs may have been factors in the crash, though they have not reached a final determination. Seatbelt usage by the drivers has not been confirmed.
Multiple agencies responded to the crash, including Van Buren Emergency Medical Services, Decatur-Hamilton Fire Department, Decatur Police Department, and the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department.
