5 workers killed after explosion at Texas International Terminals in Galveston

Five workers were transported to a hospital after authorities say a small explosion happened at Texas International Terminals in Galveston Thursday.

According to Marissa Barnett, Public Information Officer for the City of Galveston, firefighters were called to the container terminal in the 4800 block of Old Port Industrial Road around 3 p.m.

By the time firefighters got to the scene, the fire from the explosion was already out and the impacted area had been contained.

Barnett said workers had been performing maintenance on equipment and welding at the time the incident occurred.
