Bryce Canyon tour bus crash in Utah leaves many dead, injured

A tragic tour bus crash occurred near Bryce Canyon in Utah, resulting in the loss of four lives and injuring many others. The crash happened on September 20, 2019, when a medium-sized tour bus carrying 30 Chinese nationals veered off the road and rolled over while approaching a curve.¹

The bus was traveling east on a two-lane state highway in Garfield County, nearing its destination, Bryce Canyon National Park. The driver overcorrected after the bus drifted onto the soft shoulder, causing the vehicle to fishtail and tip over onto its left side. The bus slid nearly 85 feet before striking a guardrail and coming to rest back on its wheels.

Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene, and the injured passengers were transported to nearby hospitals, including Garfield Memorial Hospital (GMH). GMH played a crucial role in responding to the accident, with its staff working tirelessly to provide medical care to the victims.

The crash highlighted the importance of emergency preparedness and the need for effective communication in crisis situations. Despite the challenges posed by the language barrier between the Chinese passengers and the hospital staff, GMH’s quick thinking and resourcefulness ensured that the victims received the best possible care.
