SUV fatally strikes woman crossing Northern Lights Boulevard

According to authorities, a lady who was killed on Saturday night after being hit by an SUV as she crossed Northern Lights Boulevard close to Minnesota Drive. Around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, patrol officers were called to an accident involving a car and a pedestrian, according to an online report from the Anchorage Police Department. According to preliminary reports, the woman was struck by a west-bound Kia SUV while she was crossing the West Northern Lights westbound lanes approximately 500 feet west of the crosswalk at the Minnesota Drive intersection, according to police. She was pronounced dead at the scene by Anchorage Fire Department medics, according to authorities.

The Kia’s driver remained at the site and is assisting the authorities, according to the APD. “There have been no citations or charges brought; the investigation is still ongoing.” According to police, traffic on Northern Lights west of Minnesota was resumed at 1:20 a.m. on Sunday after the westbound lanes were closed while the Major Collision Investigations Unit processed the incident. This is the second pedestrian death in two days and the twelfth in Anchorage this year. On Friday night, a man who was crossing the Seward Highway near East 36th Avenue in Midtown was tragically struck by two vehicles. As of Sunday afternoon, neither of the two pedestrians who passed away over the weekend had been officially identified by the police.
