ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky highlights fascinating idea with Minnesota Vikings trading for Myles Garrett
How good would a Brian Flores defense for the Minnesota Vikings be with Myles Garrett on one side of the defensive line?
When the Vikings upgraded their edge rusher room last offseason, it was a major factor in the success of the defense this past year. They were fifth in the National Football League in sacks and scoring defense thanks to the play of Jonathan Greenard and Andrew Van Ginkel.
The idea of adding a player like Garrett is intriguing, but the price will make it difficult to sell.
Dan Orlovsky makes pitch for Vikings to trade for Myles Garrett
When news of a major star wanting a trade comes out, that’s the major topic of discussion on all the morning shows. It’s no different with Garrett’s trade request. On ESPN’s Get Up, Dan Orlovsky discussed how the Vikings could end up acquiring Garrett and related it back to both quarterbacks.
“The starting point of all this is what does Cleveland believe about these quarterbacks in this draft? Cam Ward? Shadeur Sanders? They have the second pick if they really like one, if not both of them, then I think they can be a little bit more patient. If they sit there and go, neither of them we believe in. As for this regards the second pick, then immediately you call the Minnesota Vikings, and you figure out, what is their vantage point on Sam Darnold? If the Vikings are going to go sign Sam Darnold, or that’s something that they want to do. Then you say, can you pull JJ McCarthy away from them and if Myles is a part of that?”
This is a very complicated discussion point. If the Vikings do pick Darnold, would they be willing to trade McCarthy? It’s a tough one to justify. However, you can do just that if you want a player in his prime destined for the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
The other question is what they would do if the Vikings prioritized McCarthy? Could this end up prompting the Vikings to franchise-tag Sam Darnold? That could end up being the case. There are a lot of different options the Vikings could end up taking and these would be the most likely ones if they were to pursue Garrett.
Will the Vikings choose to do that? It would be against who Kwesi Adofo-Mensah is to not try and pursue it, even if the talks go nowhere. Plus, the relationship with Andrew Berry is one that will help out.
