One of the victims lit himself on fire on February 19, which resulted in a deadly fire in the basement apartment of a house. The fire broke out just after midnight in the house on Palisades Avenue, trapping three people in the basement, according to Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella. Firefighters shattered a glass to get to the two women and the trapped guy, according to ABC 7.

On February 19, Manjinder Kaur, 44, passed away the following day, and Ranjodh Singh IV, 35, died that evening. Manjit Kaur, 47, is still receiving treatment for severe burns at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston and is considered to be in critical condition. Families shattered Singh used an accelerant to set himself on fire, according to an inquiry, Musella said on Friday. Before the three could escape the basement on their own, the fire quickly spread, trapping them all. Musella refrained from revealing Singh’s motivation. According to Singh’s mother Rajinder Singh’s GoFundMe page, he is wed to Manjt Kaur. Manjinder Kaur was raised by herself and has a son.
