A wildfire near Redfish Lake was reported to be 66 acres in size on Friday afternoon. The Bench Lake Fire which is believed to be the same fire, has been showing minimal activity with some smoldering pockets of heat along the western shore line of Redfish Lake.
The fire management team has been closely monitoring the situation, and a recon flight showed interior pockets of heat, which are expected to continue until the area receives significant precipitation.
Sawtooth National Recreation Area officials issued an expanded emergency closure for the Bench Lake Fire, including the Redfish Lake recreation complex, roads, trails, trailheads, and campgrounds in the area.
It’s important to note that fires are not allowed in any dispersed camping areas, and the public is urged to follow the closures and guidelines to ensure safety
