Re-signed: Former Vikings coach a surprising option for Vikings vacancy as he announced a stunning with full commitment return
It is always interesting to see which coaches and coordinators get interviews when there are head coaching vacancies around the league. Several former Minnesota Vikings coaches have left the team and found success elsewhere and Dallas is hoping they can do it again.
Leslie Frazier joined the Vikings in 2007 as their defensive coordinator and became the interim head coach in 2010 when Brad Childress was relieved of his duties. He became the head coach in 2011 and was relieved of those duties after the 2013 NFL season.
Frazier went back to looking after the defense for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Baltimore Ravens, and Buffalo Bills before taking a break from coaching. He then joined the Seattle Seahawks in 2024 to be an assistant head coach but is throwing his hat in the ring to be a head coach once again.
Former Vikings coach a surprising option for Cowboys vacancy
The Dallas Cowboys parted ways with head coach Mike McCarthy following the 2024 NFL season and are searching for the right candidate to fill the position for the upcoming season. Recently, the official X account of the Cowboys announced that an interview with Leslie Frazier to become the next head coach is complete.

Frazier would be an interesting hire for the Dallas Cowboys. While much of the league is focusing on head coaches with an offensive background, hiring a defensive mind that hasn’t been a head coach in over a decade would be a very interesting move.
While in Minnesota, Frazier was the head coach for 54 games. In those contests, he had 21 total wins and reached the postseason once, but failed to advance. Considered to be a rebuilding time for the Vikings, the third year of his new position was his last after only getting five wins out of his squad.
There is an interesting possibility in Dallas. Frazier is known for his work with defensive backs and so is Dallas’ current defensive coordinator. The man leading the defense for the Cowboys is another former Vikings head coach, Mike Zimmer.
The differences between Frazier and Zimmer are huge, yet having two defensive minds with the same specialty leading the team could be great for a team with some talented cornerbacks and safeties on the roster.
No decision has been made on who the next head coach of the Dallas Cowboys will be, but it would definitely be interesting to see former Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier got another opportunity to prove himself.
