Runner fatally struck during Fort Lauderdale half-marathon
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — An 80-year-old runner has died after he was struck by a vehicle during a half-marathon in Fort Lauderdale.
The Fort Lauderdale Police Department said in a news release Monday that Arthur Knochenhauer died after being hit by an SUV during the Michelob Ultra 13.1 Marathon on Sunday.
Police say the SUV drove into a closed portion of the route before hitting Knochenhauer. Knochenhauer was taken to the hospital, where he died.
The driver of the SUV remained at the scene and cooperated with officials.
Authorities are investigating the details of the crash. No charges were immediately filed in the case.
