Sad Report: Two dead after plane crash near Siler City Municipal Airport, North Carolina State Highway Patrol says

According to officers with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, a small plane crashed on Friday in Siler City close to the Siler City Municipal Airport. The aircraft crash was reported close to the airport at 80 Aviation Drive at 1:00 p.m.

The plane was discovered burning in the woods close to the airport by rescue personnel, according to radio traffic on Broadcastify. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) reports that the aircraft involved in the disaster was a Piper PA-28-140, which had two to four seats.

Two fatalities from the collision were confirmed by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. The plane is shown as departing Sanford at 12:29 p.m. on Flight Aware. At 12:45 p.m., the plane’s track ended in a wooded area close to the airport.
