Sophia Bordi Reclassifies, Joins Oklahoma Sooners | Here’s Why That’s Important

In a surprising move, highly-touted softball prospect Sophia Bordi has reclassified and will join the Oklahoma Sooners for the 2025 season.

Ranked as the No. 12 overall player in the country by Softball America in the 2025 class, Bordi was expected to play her senior year of high school before joining the Sooners. However, the talented pitcher and infielder has decided to accelerate her timeline and begin her collegiate career early.

This early arrival provides Bordi with the opportunity to learn from Patty Gasso and the Oklahoma coaching staff while also gaining valuable experience at the collegiate level. While a redshirt season is a possibility, Bordi has the potential to make an immediate impact on the Sooners’ lineup.

“Sophia brings a lot to the table,” Patti Gasso said about Bordi after she initially signed as a part of the 2026 class. “She is an elite pitcher, having won championships in both high school and travel ball. She is also elite offensively. She brings power from the right side and we expect her to be an integral part of our program. I’m very excited about Sophia’s future as a Sooner.”

Bordi’s decision to reclassify adds another exciting dimension to an already talented Oklahoma roster. With a blend of returning veterans and highly-touted newcomers, the Sooners are poised for another successful season in 2025.
