16-year-old charged with DWI in fatal crash in North Carolina

The intersection of Atlantic Avenue and Millbrook Road was shut down early on Wednesday morning due to a serious collision involving a UPS truck and two other vehicles, resulting in the death of one individual. At around 3:31 a.m., Raleigh police officers responded to a three-vehicle collision. Two people were brought to the hospital, where one was later declared dead, according to the police. Officers said a 16-year-old kid was driving an eastbound Hyundai sedan on East Millbrook Road when he failed to stop at the red light at the junction of Millbrook Road and Atlantic Avenue. One person was killed and another critically injured in the rollover incident on I-40, according to Greensboro police. They alleged that he struck John Gottilly, 63, who was driving a Dodge pickup truck south on Atlantic Avenue.

According to the police department, the pickup vehicle was forced into the side of a Mack truck that was driving by and heading north on Atlantic Avenue while towing two UPS semi-trailers, causing it to cross the crossing. According to the police, Gottilly died after being admitted to the hospital with severe injuries. They added that the young person had major injuries and was also brought to the hospital. They said that the minor faced DWI charges afterwards.

The police agency stated that more charges could be brought since the investigation is still underway. Wednesday morning at rush hour, the intersection was closed for a number of hours, and cars were diverted around the area. Around 3:40 p.m., according to the police, regular traffic resumed on the road.
