Student’s death on Kalymnos caused by accident,

A week after going missing, a 21-year-old university student was discovered dead on the southeast Aegean island of Kalymnos. His cause of death was a fall, not murder as was first thought.

According to the autopsy, Nikos Hatzipavlou died from severe injuries he sustained after falling from a height, according to a coroner’s report on Tuesday. The fact that the young man’s body was found at a place that had already been extensively searched by authorities after Hatzipavlou was reported missing had puzzled investigators on the island. His bicycle was also discovered abandoned in the vicinity, which focused the search in that direction. On the other hand, Hatzipavlou’s injuries and bruises, along with the area’s reputation as a drug dealer’s hangout, suggested that the 21-year-old student was the victim of foul play.

The coroner’s statement that Hatzipavlou struggled for hours or perhaps days after the fall rather than passing away quickly makes the facts seem even more unsettling. The expert went on to say that the young man was probably dragged to the site where his body was discovered by severe rains. Hatzipavlou was on Kalymnos visiting his mother, a teacher, while he was a student at the National Technical University of Athens.
