SUV carrying 5 people lands in hot, acidic geyser at Yellowstone National Park

In Yellowstone National Park, an SUV veered off the road and into a geyser. Around 10:40 a.m. on Thursday, the car ended up in the Semi-Centennial Geyser thermal feature near Roaring Mountain between Mammoth Hot Springs and Norris Junction, according to a news release issued by the National Park Service on Friday.

The surface water of the Semi-Centennial Geyser is hot and acidic. According to the organization, this geyser can reach temperatures of up to 105 degrees. Fortunately, each person inside the SUV managed to escape on their own. They were then transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital, where their injuries were not life-threatening.

The vehicle was fully submerged in about 9 feet of water. The roadway near the incident was closed for about two hours, the agency said.
