Man and woman died after allegedly crashing a power boat into kayakers in Thurston County

Thurston County authorities have charged a man with driving a power boat that collided with kayakers on Puget Sound last weekend. A Woodinville father and son consider themselves fortunate to be alive.

“We’ve been doing this in tandem kayaks for more than ten years.” Phillip Hill and his son Anthony allege they were nearly murdered when the boater plowed into their kayak at Carlyon Beach.

“There was a group of kayakers coming in from the same direction that we were going,” Anthony stated as they left.

The Hills claim that after ten minutes in the water, they noticed a boat approaching them at full speed. “We tried to grab his attention by waving our paddles and yelling obscenities. We simply had to escape, and we did so from the front. According to Phillip, I jumped over the side beneath the kayak, and the boat sailed straight over the top of it. The motorist destroyed the kayak and drove off.

Then Anthony emerged from the water first and called out to his father. Anthony remarked, “If he got hit by the propeller, I’m going to have to pull him to shore for CPR or start packing his wounds. It was terrifying and I thought I had just lost my dad.” The two were brought back to the shore by jet skiers, where they received scrapes and bruises from the medics. However, the family is still feeling the effects of the catastrophe. “He is plagued by nightmares.” At night, you can just see the boat coming toward you when you close your eyes. It takes time to get over it, and I believe it will take some time.
