GALVESTON COUNTY, Texas — A 12-vehicle crash shut down the Gulf Freeway for hours headed south at FM 646 in Galveston County Saturday morning, League City police said.
LCPD first posted about the crash on social media at 7:33 a.m. They said six people were hurt. Four of those people were taken to a hospital for treatment. Police said one driver told them visibility was low due to fog and they crashed into the vehicle in front of them, causing a chain reaction.
Houston TranStar reported that all main lanes and the left and right shoulder of the freeway were blocked.
Police said one of the vehicles was a pest extermination vehicle that leaked insecticide and rodent poison onto the road. A hazmat crew was called to clean up the spill.
The freeway has since reopened.
