Plane crashes into west Texas mobile home park, killing 20 and setting homes ablaze

Tuesday morning, a plane in west Texas crashed into an alleyway, killing two persons on board, wounding others, and destroying mobile homes with fire. According to Ector County Sheriff Mike Griffis, the collision occurred near Odessa at around seven in the morning and resulted in several structure fires. After a woman was pulled from a blazing mobile home by firefighters, she was sent to a medical facility. “Witnesses have said that they saw the plane struggling to get altitude, clipped power lines and ultimately crashed in the alleyway,” Griffis told the press. “There was a large fire after some explosions.”

Griffis stated that before it crashed, witnesses noticed the jet moving away from a few residences, and it’s “obvious the pilot attempted to avoid the houses.” The Federal Aviation Administration says that an investigation is underway to determine what caused the incident.

A whole block was harmed According to Odessa Fire Chief Jason Cotton, the little aircraft flew almost a full block before coming to rest. Cotton said that there were damages to a number of cars, stores, barns, storage spaces, and backyards. Firefighters have contained the fire. The National Transportation Safety Board reports that the aircraft was a Cessna Citation business jet that crashed into the mobile home park after taking off from Odessa-Schlemeyer Field Airport.
