14-year-old Creston girl killed, other teens injured in crash in Wayne County

TWP CANAAN. At 4:14 p.m. on Friday, a single car collision on Canaan Center Road close to East Sterling Road in Wayne County claimed the life of a 14-year-old girl. The 2007 Honda Civic carrying Aurora Krahenbuhl of Creston was heading north on Canaan Center when it went off the road, collided into two landscaping islands and a ditch before rolling several times, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

With just minor wounds, the 17-year-old driver was sent to Wooster Community Hospital. There were three additional people riding in the car. After suffering severe injuries, a 15-year-old was flown by air ambulance to Akron Children’s Hospital from Wooster Community Hospital. The 13- and 14-year-old passengers were transferred to Lodi Hospital. One later had minor injuries and was taken to Cleveland Clinic Medina Hospital.

News 5 Cleveland was informed by Norwayne Local Schools Superintendent Kevin Leatherman that the five teenagers were middle and high school students. “Please keep all of our students and families in your thoughts and prayers and we mourn this loss,” Leatherman stated.

Friday night’s homecoming football game between Chippewa High School and Norwayne was postponed. The crash is still being investigated, according to the patrol, even though drugs and alcohol aren’t thought to have played a role in it.
