Virginia Tech student killed in boating accident in Lake Gaston

In a watercraft tragedy at Lake Gaston last week, a 19-year-old student from Virginia Tech lost his life. The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission reports that on June 22 in Lake Gaston, a boat carrying three persons struck a wharf.

Jackson Fendley, 19, is said to have perished in the collision. Fendley was a native of Harrisonburg and a student at Virginia Tech, according to the Kyger Funeral Home. According to officials, the accused boat operator was hurt and immediately fled the scene. He reportedly received treatment and was allowed to leave the hospital.

One additional person was on board, and they were unharmed. Charges are pending and the investigation is still ongoing, according to the NC Wildlife Resources Commission.
