Six dead, four hospitalized after fiery three-car crash in Riverside County

Six people were murdered and four others were hospitalized in a catastrophic three-car incident in the Inland Empire on Monday, all of which happened when a motorist tried to go around other automobiles by driving into oncoming lanes of traffic. The Riverside County Fire Department reports that the collision occurred at the intersection of Bridge Street and Gilman Springs Road at approximately 2:20 p.m. Three cars were on fire when firefighters arrived, and according to the department’s statement, the flames had already spread into the nearby vegetation.

According to crews, six persons were declared deceased at the spot. Although no names have been released, authorities claim that two of the fatalities were younger than ten years old. According to investigators, the driver—who is yet unidentified—was trying to pass slower-moving vehicles by swerving into eastbound lanes while he was heading west on Gilman Springs Road. Captain Gil Campa of the California Highway Patrol stated, “This was a horrific crash with devastating consequences for families, and it could have been avoided.” “That is the hardest fact to accept in this situation.”

Four more people were taken by paramedics to Riverside University Medical Center in Moreno Valley for treatment of minor to critical injuries, according to firemen. With some assistance from the Cal Fire plane, the crews managed to put out the brush fire in less than an hour. About four acres had been burned by the time the fire was completely contained at 4 p.m. While the debris was removed from the road, California Highway Patrol officers and deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office closed Gilman Springs Road on both sides. Alessandro Boulevard to the north and Highway 79 to the south were both affected by the closure.

When the road was supposed to reopen is unknown. Investigators are attempting to ascertain the crash’s cause.
