Fire prompts evacuation notice near Henry Hagg Lake

Officials issued a Level 3 (go immediately) evacuation order for residents on Southwest Nixon Drive and Southwest Oak Street in Gaston on Thursday due to a brush fire close to Henry Hagg Lagg. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office stated in a social media post on Thursday afternoon that Gaston City Hall was open until 5 p.m. for those who were affected by the incident. For displaced horses and animals, the Washington County Fairgrounds were scheduled to open Thursday afternoon. The Knights of Pythias Gaston Lodge is available after 5 p.m.

According to the sheriff’s office, Henry Hagg Lake is blocked so that firefighting aircraft can use it to retrieve water. A Level 1 (be ready) evacuation notice has been issued by the sheriff’s office for the area west of Henry Hagg Lake.
