Big plane crashes near Brandon; pilot and passenger died

A tiny plane crashed on Saturday afternoon, August 15, northeast of Brandon, close to Whiskey Lake. There were reports of minor injuries. Shortly after 1 p.m., the aircraft crashed, caught fire, and came to rest in a ditch between the turn about of East Whiskey Lake Drive NW, a dead end road on the south end of Whiskey Lake, and a house at 13393 Aldrich Road. The aircraft, flown by Paul Erickson, 53, of Alexandria, was a single-engine Piper PA-18 Super Cub, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. The 15-year-old Alexandrian Alicia Erickson was his passenger.
