Black weekend in the mountains: three hikers lose their lives

The PGHM helicopter was on a cover for a mountaineer developing in a chute, victim of a block of ice landing in the face, and the gendarmerie helicopter was having a hard time keeping up. Pascal Brun’s private firm, CMBH, was called in for a rescue from a crevasse below the Requin shelter.

Not a bad season for things to do in the Chorde couloir. Information collected on the location suggests that they may have slipped and fallen 50 meters down the steep couloir. A well-liked hiking trail, the Chorde couloir, ascends to Pointe Noire de Pormenaz and the little lake with the same name. There is another fall that leads to the Col des Montets and a 400-meter snow slide. This is the meeting point of Vallorine, the bear valley, and Chamonix Valley. enduring several traumas.

Somewhere near the Very chalets, above the village of Praz-sur-Arly, lies another walker and another tragedy. Despite the measures taken, the Haute-Savoie native passed away from a heart attack. A skier suffered multiple injuries after a serious fall at the Roc d’Enfer in the Haut Chablais. The unresponsive patient was transported by plane to a Geneva hospital. As stated by the PGHM chief, “Remember that snow acts much like concrete in the mountains. Any fall could result in detrimental effects.”
