Breaking news: Two Suffolk flood investigation reports published in latest response to Storm Babet

Today, the Suffolk County Council released comprehensive flood reports for the last two municipalities that were severely damaged by Storm Babet.

Investigations on the October 2023 floods in Needham Market and Wickham Market have determined what caused the flooding and have made recommendations for potential future mitigation measures. More than forty-five residential and business properties in Needham Market had internal flooding. In Wickham Market, forty properties were present. Services and infrastructure were interrupted in both communities.

The results of the examinations showed that the areas suffered greatly from flooding as a result of the heavy rainfall, which exceeded the capacity of watercourses and drainage infrastructure as well as the natural flow paths. When water from rivers that had overflowed their banks merged with overland flow channels, the situation became more complicated.
