Six people injured in Highway 1 crash east of Lake Louise

Following a two-vehicle crash on the Trans-Canada Highway in Yoho National Park on Wednesday (Aug. 7), one woman has died and another is still critically ill. Just before 11:30 a.m., a collision near Field B.C. caused the two-lane highway to close for approximately eight hours. Two patients were transported to the hospital by air ambulance, one in a fixed-wing aircraft and the other via STARS air ambulance. Sadly, a woman receiving critical care in the hospital today passed away. According to RCMP Constable/Gend Kat Robinson, a public relations officer at Golden-Field RCMP, “another woman is still in critical condition.”

The Golden RCMP General Duty Section, the BC Highway Patrol, and the BC Coroner’s Service have all notified the family, and they are still looking into the now-deadly crash. We are asking anyone who saw the collision to call the Golden-Field RCMP at 250-344-2221.

In a multi-agency reaction, the RCMP, firefighters, and paramedics from both Alberta and British Columbia were dispatched to the area. According to representatives of B.C. Emergency Health Services, paramedics treated six people for emergency medical care. One of the six victims was flown to the hospital via air ambulance. The BCEHS public information officer, Rachelle Bown, stated that a second patient was flown to the hospital via air ambulance after being transported by ground. “Four other patients were transported by ground ambulances to hospital.” Lake Louise Fire and Golden Fire Rescue extricated two individuals from their wrecked car.
