Pioneering dirt track racing legend Scott Bloomquist 60 tragically passed away in a plane crash near his home in Mooresburg, Tennessee, on August 16, 2024 ¹. Bloomquist was flying one of his vintage planes around the family farm when the accident occurred ².

 

Bloomquist was a highly decorated driver, with over 600 victories and eight championships across various series ¹ ³. He was inducted into the National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame in 2002 and was widely recognized as one of the most accomplished racers in the discipline ⁴.

Beyond his on-track accomplishments, Bloomquist’s unmatched personality made him one of the most recognizable names in all of short-track racing ⁴. He was known for his eccentric personality, flowing long hair, and impressive collection of nicknames, including “Voodoo Child,” “The Bloomer,” “The Boss,” and “Black Sunshine” ¹.

 

The racing community has come together to pay tribute to Bloomquist, with Cup Series star Kyle Larson and former Cup Series standouts Kenny Wallace and Clint Bowyer sharing their condolences on social media ¹.
